[ Technical Textiles - Escape suits for Indian Navy submarines]

Bangalore-TOI:

At depths of 100 meters or more, when the pressure is enormous and the waters are deep shade of black, life on a submarine is not always merry.

In cases of accidents, submarines are required to use a hydro-suit and a closed circuit automatic breathing apparatus to escape and reach the surface. In the latest thrust to indigenization of the country's defence systems a DRDO lab has made a break-through in devoloping submarine escape sets for use by the Navy.

Till now,the sets were being acquired as accessories along with submarines, primarily from Russia and Germany.Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL),part of the DRDO unit, has developed and already completed an indigenous version of Submarine escape set(SES).

The hydro suit in the set will be a positively buoyant protective clothing made of rubberized fabric.
